Your desert adventure begins in Merzouga, a small settlement on the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. As the camels are prepared and your luggage is loaded into saddle bags, you’ll meet your experienced Berber guide, a desert native .
By late afternoon, you mount your camel and begin the trek, swaying gently with the rhythm of the dunes as the sun begins to dip.
After approximately 1.5 hours of trekking, you arrive at your first desert camp . As the evening light paints the sand in hues of orange and red, you are welcomed with mint tea and Moroccan pastries.
Dinner is a traditional tagine prepared over open fire, followed by live Berber drumming under a star-filled sky.
Awake early to climb a nearby dune and witness the sunrise — an awe-inspiring moment as the desert slowly lights up and casts long shadows over the dunes. After a hearty breakfast of bread, olive oil, jam, and coffee, the camels are readied for the next leg of the journey.
This camp is far from any village, offering complete serenity. It’s here you’ll enjoy complete immersion in the desert lifestyle. Your guides may teach you how to cook sand bread, share legends of the Sahara, or demonstrate traditional instruments and dances.
After breakfast, you begin the return trek toward Merzouga. The journey is contemplative, as you watch the golden dunes slip away behind you.
By late morning, you arrive back in Merzouga where a shower and cold drink await.
